MEMSIC's MC3479 3-axis capacitive accelerometer features a dedicated motion detection block (shock, tilt, position) optimized for mobile and consumer electronics. It consists of three axes and is manufactured on a monolithic CMOS integrated circuit.

The MC3479 is a 3-axis capacitive accelerometer manufactured on a monolithic CMOS integrated circuit, featuring a digital output and a compact form factor. Unlike the MXD6235Q (which uses thermal technology designed for industrial reliability), the MC3479 is optimized for mobile and consumer electronics: phones, game controllers, remote controls, and portable media devices. It incorporates a dedicated motion detection block with ready-to-use algorithms for shock, tilt/flip, and roll angle detection—the sensor analyzes part of the motion itself rather than simply returning raw data.

Main features

  • Built-in motion detection: dedicated block for shake detection ("any motion"), tilt/flip, and 35 tilt positions.
  • 16-bit FIFO buffer: stores multiple samples before reading, reducing the load on the host microcontroller.
  • Selectable ranges: ±2, ±4, ±8, ±12, or ±16 g.
  • 16-bit resolution in both single-sample and FIFO modes.
  • Very low power consumption: 4 µA (typical) in standby mode.
  • Dual interface: SPI up to 10 MHz, or I²C up to 1 MHz.
  • Ultra-compact format: 12-pin LGA package, 2×2×0.92 mm.
